May 2012, Ron Hague, Operations Manager –

The company logging crews started in April, with a full season planned to log approximately 26 million board feet.

Skip Luczak rejoins our mainside logging crew as they start the first job on the Ruff Hill property.

The small crews are at the Soper Ranch. The fellerbuncher has been outfitted with a hotsaw and is presently working on a commercial thinning unit at the Soper Ranch.

Adding the Waratah log processor to the newly repowered CAT 330B loader has definitely increased production on the Mainside.

Last year, our crews worked well together having a safe, productive and regulatory compliant logging season.

The shop worked very hard on all of our equipment doing preventive maintenance and other repairs to be ready for spring start-up.  Our equipment is in pretty good shape, which says a lot about the skill and care our operators give to the machines when they are running them and our shop’s preventive maintenance program.

This week, we took delivery of a brand new Cozad low bed trailer.  The new low bed will make it more efficient to transport our three shovel loaders between jobs.  Retaining the old low bed gives us the flexibility of transporting other machines, especially during fire season.

We will be participating in our fire agreements with the Forest Service (USFS) and Cal-Fire again this year. Fire shelter refresher training was accomplished in March.  Every year we prepare for an active fire season. We are thankful for the quiet fire season that we received last year.

I look forward to another safe, productive year with the best people and equipment in the logging industry.
