Wedding venue on the Hedgpeth ranch

January 2011 – By Patrick Tremo, Ranch Manager –

2010 proved to be an exciting year for us on the Hedgepeth Ranch, and 2011 is shaping up to be even more so. From May 1 through Christmas, we experienced nearly a 90% occupancy rate for weekend or longer stays.

Rental of the ranch guest houses were primarily for weddings, family vacations, and gatherings. One interesting group that rented the ranch was a professional/amateur cycling team comprised of 25 women. They rode their bikes from San Francisco to the ranch (approximately 100 miles with a total elevation gain of 7,500 vertical feet). The next day, they rode bikes from the Ranch to Healdsburg and back (six hours). The following day they rode from the ranch to the town of Gualala and back (five hours). On departure day, they rode their bikes back to San Francisco. (They did have several support vans with all of their belongings trailing behind.)

Overall, most reservations for the guest houses are for three days and two nights, but more than several groups rented the ranch for seven to 12 days. Most guests come from the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. We have had entire groups come from Washington DC, New York, Texas and Washington state. We have also found that most guests staying here want the “Ranch Experience”. We have always provided complementary guided tours that include hiking, mountain biking, hands-on vineyard tours, and 4×4 tours. We now offer bull dozer demonstrations and skeet/target shooting. We are always finding new ways to make the ranch even more memorable for guests so they will return each year.
