New additions to the ‘Small Side’ logging crew; FJ (left) and Jesse (right).

April 2013, Scott Worden, Soper-Wheeler Company Forester –

I would like to welcome Jesse McCutcheon and Farrell James Moulder (FJ as he is better known) to the ‘Small Side’ logging crew. Both are operating heavy equipment for us.

Jesse is replacing longtime employee Kevin Noel who retired last year after 34 years at Soper-Wheeler.

FJ is helping out down on the Soper Ranch on some of the steeper ground in the Deere 850J, and Jesse is on the skidder.

Jesse and FJ have both fit right in, and we are picking up right where we left off a year ago.  Ultimately Jesse will team up with Bob Waddell and FJ will stick around on the ‘Small Side’ as long as he is needed there.

Right now we’re all getting back into the swing of things.  John Moak, Ed Hecker, and Bob Waddell, Jesse McCutcheon are working at the Soper Ranch.  FJ is working with them just north of Malolly Meadow.

This area hasn’t seen a piece of equipment in a long time- it’s steep and rocky without any trails pointing in the right direction.  In the “good old days” everything went downhill, which was easy, but those practices aren’t good for the land so we don’t do that anymore. The guys are using “kinder gentler” practices, getting the logs to the landing and making it look easy.

It’s a new year and a new look, but the more things change the more they stay the same.  Meanwhile, we’ll just keep doing a good job.  Looking forward to a great and safe year!
