September 2014, Ron Hague, Operations Manager –

This year, we made some changes to the logging crew which resulted in a mechanic’s position opening up in our shop.  This position was filled by a very talented mechanic and local person, Jed Howard.

Jed was born in Yuba City, grew up in the Brownsville area, and was learning his future profession at a very early age.  At six years old, working with his father at Harry Howard’s Napa Auto in Brownsville, he learned about auto parts and worked on small engines.  Jed also learned earthwork, working with his father since he was 10 years old, and was hired to run the backhoe.

Self-employed since 1992, Jed has been in the metal fabrication and earthwork business; much of it self-taught.  Jed was employed by Jim Bamford Jr., working on his main side and chipping side both as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator.  In addition to Jed’s vast knowledge of heavy equipment, trucks and metal fabrication, he brings with him both of his machine shops, service trucks and special tools.

Jed presently lives in LaPorte with his wife Donna and they have been married for 16 years.  In their spare time they enjoy back-country off road jeep trips, snowmobiling and competing in archery tournaments.  Jed is an active member of the LaPorte Water District, which has two complete water systems that are spring fed into four water tanks and provide water to 140 parcels.  Donna works doing things around LaPorte, including working for the owners of the Union Hotel.

Jed still runs his business, Howard Services, and is among other things, an expert jeep fabricator.  We have yet to find out what Jed can’t weld or fix!

In addition to all of these things, Jed is a very polite, well-mannered person that you will enjoy talking with.  We are all very pleased with the work Jed is doing and happy to have him on our team.
